LaMelo LaFrance Ball was born on the 22nd day of August 2001 to his father, LaVar Ball and mother, Tina Ball in Chino Hills, California. He was raised at his birthplace with his two elder brothers, Lonzo and LiAngelo. Be rest assured, the young player and his siblings received lots of love from their parents throughout their childhood days to date.

Early Life:

As soon as he was able to walk, LaMelo Ball’s dad taught him how to play basketball. At age four, he began playing with his brothers, Lonzo and LiAngelo, who tasted their talents against older opponents. Barely a year after venturing into the game of basketball, the young lad also delved into playing flag football with his brother.

However, he gave more concentration to basketball above every other thing. In 2013, Ball started to compete alongside his brothers in the Big Ballers VXT (an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team founded and coached by his parents). Back then, he was in his seventh grade and worked so hard to measure up to the capabilities of his elder siblings.

LaMelo Ball started his basketball career when he enrolled to study at Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California. With his older siblings, Lonzo and LiAngelo, he captured a state championship and gained national success as a freshman. Interestingly, LaMelo scored an average of 26.7 points per game in the 2016-17 season at the age of 15 while playing as a Point Guard.

In February 2017, he scored 92 points in a single game for his Chino Hills school in a match against Los Osos. This was the second-best record in the history of the California High School Basketball Championship for any team. It gained him considerable media recognition in no distant time.

Another remarkable feat achieved by LaMelo was when he made a half-court shot just a few seconds into a game in December 2016. He was compared to star NBA shooter Stephen Curry because of his frequent long three-pointer attempts.

Professional Career:

The last quarter of 2017 unveiled a lot of challenges for LaMelo Ball. First, his father did not approve of the competence of Chino Hills’ newly-appointed head coach and school administrator, Dennis Latimore. As a result, Ball had to leave Chino Hills to be homeschooled.

Just a few months after leaving his junior high school, the 16 years old player foregoes college basketball and signed with the Lithuanian professional team, Prienai. Hence, Ball became the youngest American to sign a professional basketball deal.

Unfortunately, the young lad did not get enough playing time at Prenai, which made his father extremely sad. Without any delay, Ball and the rest of his family left Prenai and returned to Los Angeles.

A Quest for a New Beginning:

With the looming uncertainty of his son’s future, LaVar Ball created the Junior Basketball Association (JBA), which is an alternative to college basketball. There, LaMelo was able to sign a contract with Los Angeles Ballers and continued to advance his basketball talents.

In November 2018, LaMelo Ball joined SPIRE Institute and Academy. There, he played basketball for a few months before finally signing a two-year contract with Illawarra Hawks of the Australian-based National Basketball League (NBL).

At Illawarra, he became the 4th player in league history, and the 1st since the NBL switched to 40-minute games, to record consecutive triple-doubles. Interestingly, he was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the third overall pick of the 2020 NBA draft.
