Paris Saint Germain FC was officially founded on the 12th day of August 1970, by a group of businessmen, namely Guy Crescent, Pierre-Étienne Guyot, and Henri Patrelle. The aforementioned businessmen merged two clubs – Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain – to create a major team in the capital of France.

The merged club which was named Paris Saint-Germain had a hard time adjusting to their new schedules. It was difficult for Paris FC players to understand the pattern of Stade Saint-Germain gameplay. However, the team worked together to overcome the challenge of their differences.

You won’t believe it! PSG made a huge impact in France football competition by winning the Ligue 2 title in their first season of joining the League. Their success earned them the gateway to joining the highest division of the French League – Ligue 1.

The Unfortunate Break-Up:

Nobody had ever envisaged that the newly successful club will hit rock bottom. Unfortunately, the merged PSG had an internal disagreement that left the entire team in a state of disarray. In 1972, the club split into Paris FC and Paris Saint Germain FC (the current PSG).

Feeling completely betrayed by their own allies, PSG worked their way back into the heart of the highest French league. Therefore, in 1974 they made their return to Ligue 1. Unfortunately, their counterpart (Paris FC) was related to Division 2 in that same year. Thereafter, PSG has dominated the major football competition in France.

Winning Their First Major Trophies:

The early 80s saw PSG into winning their first major trophies. In the year 1982, PSG recorded a resounding achievement by winning the Coupe de France for the first time. Subsequently, Paris Saint Germain FC continued to try their luck in European competitions, where they played several memorable matches but ultimately failed to advance past the quarter-final.
