However, after careful consideration, the point guard decided to forgo playing college basketball. Instead, he opted to take a different path by signing a two-year contract with Overtime Elite (OTE) on the 25th of May 2021.
This move allowed him to embark on his professional basketball career, joining the City Reapers team. OTE is a newly established professional league based in Atlanta, catering to players between the ages of 16 and 20.

Nurturing their sons’ aspirations, the Thompson family took measures to support his basketball dreams. They made the decision to homeschool Amen and his twin for a couple of years, allowing them to dedicate ample time to training and skill development.
However, as the twins approached eighth grade, an exciting opportunity arose for them to enroll at a private school in Fort Lauderdale. According to their mother, education was highly valued within the family.
Hence, it was a natural course for every member of their household to pursue higher education. In a nutshell, opting out of the traditional schooling system for her sons was a significant risk.”

Though initial disputes arose during their matchups, the twins dutifully performed the drills daily. They became steadfast in their routine even when their father pretended to leave and secretly watched their progress from afar.
Amen Thompson Mother – Maya Wilson:
The athlete’s Mom, Maya Wilson, faced one of the biggest challenges when the opportunity arose for her family to relocate from Berkeley, California, to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Apparently, Pine Crest School, known for its academic excellence rather than its basketball program, provided the chance for the twins to compete against physically stronger athletes in South Florida.
However, Maya, who worked for the city of Berkeley and had family ties in Oakland, wasn’t immediately convinced. She understood that basketball, although important, wasn’t everything in life.
This left the Thompson household at a crossroads, as Troy firmly believed in the move while Maya hesitated. She was clearly torn between her attachment to her job and her desire to keep her family close.
Amen Thompson’s Bond with his Mom and Twin-Brother:
Amen was surprisingly the closest of all three boys to his mother. He was concerned about his mom’s well-being and offered to stay with her to alleviate her stress.
Maya Wilson was deeply moved by her son’s empathy and sacrifice. However, she realized she couldn’t separate her children from their dreams due to her reservations.
Hence, she declined Amen’s offer while expressing her gratitude to him for his selflessness. Little did Maya know that her son’s words were more of a compassionate bluff than a genuine intention to stay behind.
Amen Thompson subsequently clarifies that he could never truly abandon his twin brother Ausar. he even emphasized the unbreakable bond they share.
With Maya’s decision made, the family embarked on the journey together, leaving behind their familiar surroundings and embracing the new chapter awaiting them in Fort Lauderdale.
Maya’s unwavering support for her sons and her willingness to prioritize their dreams over her own concerns demonstrates her immense love and dedication as a mother.
Together, the Thompson family took a leap of faith, united in their pursuit of basketball success and the realization of their shared dreams.
Amen Thompson Older Brother – Troy Jr. Thompson:
Troy Thompson Jr., the elder brother of the Thompson twins, Amen and Ausar, played a significant role in their basketball journey. Born on the 28th of December 1994, Troy Jr. is 9 years older than his brothers.
Growing up, the twins trained under the guidance of their dad and elder brother as they did not have a dedicated trainer. They often felt secure while learning under the tutelage of their older sibling.
Digging into his biography, Troy Jr. attended Oakland Technical High School for his high school education. He was a talented basketball player who wanted to make a name for himself in the NBA.
After high school, Troy Jr. pursued his college basketball career at City College of San Francisco. He only played at the college for two years before transferring to Prairie View A&M University.
Despite recording many impressive feats, Amen Thompson’s older brother remained undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft. In October 2019, he had a tryout with the Stockton Kings.
Unfortunately, the Kings placed his contract on waivers. Hence, Troy Jr. had to bounce back to his plan B since basketball failed to work out.
He worked as an online distributor for Organo Gold Independent Distributor for over 8 years. Since September 2021, he has taken on a new role as a management trainee at Enterprises, a travel arrangement company.

The point guard’s twin brother is Ausar Thompson, and they both play on the same team. Ausar attended Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he achieved notable success like his brother.
As a junior, he displayed impressive skills, averaging 22.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. Ausar eventually chose to bypass his senior year of high school and signed with Overtime Elite (OTE) instead of pursuing a college basketball career.
In 2021, he and his brother Amen joined the Overtime Elite basketball league, setting them on a professional path. During the 2021-22 season, Ausar helped his team win the inaugural OTE championship.
His outstanding performance during the tournament earned him the title of inaugural Finals MVP. There is no doubt he is bound to succeed immensely in the NBA.
Amen Thompson Girlfriend:
The talented basketball player has been capturing the attention of fans and followers with his skills on the court. However, when it comes to his personal life, Amen Thompson has been quite secretive.
It is on this note that has been no reports or indications of him having a girlfriend. Apparently, Thompson is too committed to his craft that he rarely has time to spare for a relationship.
The demanding nature of sports and the need for intense training and focus often leave little time for his personal endeavors. Hence, Thompson has primarily focused on basketball as he strives to improve his game.
