Victor Erik Olof Hedman is a Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman and alternate captain for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the NHL. He was selected as the second overall pick by the Lightning in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Hedman was born on the 18th day of December 1990 to his mother, Elizabeth Hedman, and father, Olle Hedman, in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden.

He is the youngest of three boys born to his parents. The hockey defenceman had a cheerful childhood with his two older brothers, Oscar and Johan Hedman, who introduced him to the game of hockey.

The defenceman has been in a relationship with his longtime girlfriend turned wife. Her name is Sanna Grundberg, and she is also Swedish like him.

Hedman and Sanna started dating even before he was selected in the 2009 NHL draft.  They were the clingy type that never wanted to be separated by distance.

After being drafted by the Lightning in 2009, Hedman had to move to Florida. Back then, he was quite young and his girlfriend was barely 18 years old. She couldn’t be away from him and decided to join him on his journey.

Hence, the couple left their country for Florida, where they lived together. Sadly, Sanna Grundberg’s immigration status didn’t permit her to get a job.

While staying at home, the beautiful damsel took care of all house chores and ensured Hedman never had any sort of emotional breakdown. The interesting fact about their relationship is that it stood the test of time.

Victor Hedman and Sanna Grundberg Marriage:

As they lived together and supported each other, their love grew even stronger. For About eight years, Victor and Sanna remained as boyfriend and girlfriend. They went on different trips and sightseeing at beautiful places.

Olle Hedman is the dad of the successful defenseman. He was a well-known, long-tenured equipment manager for MoDo hockey, of the Swedish Elite League.

Hedman’s father worked with the team for about 20 years and piloted his two older sons (Johan and Oscar) through the ranks of MoDo. Olle was devoted to ensuring his boys excel in their aspirations.

Of course, his experience while working with a hockey team came in handy, as he often trained his boys in his spare time. Olle made it a sense of duty to attend his sons’ games whenever they were playing on the ice.

Indeed, he is one of the many fathers who are happy with how successful their children’s careers turned out to be. Looking back at his son’s childhood, Olle described Hedman as a young lad who had a passion for sports.

Do you know?… Victor Hedman started playing hockey as a goaltender. But his dad wasn’t convinced that the position was suitable for him. Hence, he came up with a strategy to have Victor leave the post for good.

Hedman’s eldest brother, Johan, is eight years older than him. He played professional hockey in Sweden before retiring after the 2013-14 season.

Johan decided to put his experience into good use and took up a coaching role with a team in the south of Sweden.

Victor Hedman’s second brother is Oscar Hedman. He was once a defenseman who played for the Swedish Junior National during the 2005 and 2006 World Junior Championships.

Oscar was a big guy with a really strong defensive prowess. He was selected as the 132nd overall pick by the Washington Capitals, in the 2004 NHL Draft.

Sadly, he never made it to the NHL and spend most of his days playing for Modo Hockey in the HockeyAllsvenskan (Allsv).
